Rotten Siding Replacement

In the greater Vancouver area, we receive a lot of calls regarding replacing rotten siding or replacing rotten fascia boards. People call us to replace a small part of their siding or a small part of their facia that has rotten. The problem with rot it is never a small area and it is almost always more than what the eye can see.  Please see pictures below that looks like just from first glance a small repair of wood siding, maybe a few boards that need to be replaced.

The pictures above are of wood siding of a house located in Burnaby BC. The wood siding just looks like it is chipping a little bit and a few boards would need to be replaced. We thought it would be an easy fix and a full day worth of work to replace some boards but when we started taking the boards off it turned out there is much more going on underneath.

As you can see from the pictures the all of the wood under the siding is completely rotten. When we took the first piece of wood siding off we noticed under the piece of siding it was all rotted and a carpenter ant jumped out.  Each piece of siding that came off it just got worse, and we saw more and more rot. The first areas we started taking the siding off from it was so rotten that you could stick your finger through the wood. There was a wasp nest under the siding, and also an ant colony. When the siding is rotted like this there is nothing you can do but replace all of the sidings because you can not even put a nail in rotting wood that is falling apart.

In this particular case of rotting siding how the rotting started was because the person who installed the siding did not seal it properly. When you look for the cheapest way to install or repair your siding you also get a cheap job that will cost you more in the long run. Water and moist is what causes rot for wood siding and facia so if you start to see siding or facia separating you should get that taken care of right away before the wood starts to rot.

When it comes to repairing rotten wood you never know how much work there is until you start taking things apart to do the job. If a contractor gives you a set price before knowing what is under or without knowing what they are dealing with then you will end up with a surprise.

Custom Cedar Fence In Greater Vancouver

When you are wanting to get a new fence built in our opinion a nice cedar fence not only will look the best but will last the longest. Here at Quick Sidekick, we are offering custom cedar fence building to all residents living in the Greater Vancouver area. When we build your Vancouver home a new fence we will make sure you are happy with the results.

The picture you see above is a picture of a fence and gate that we installed yesterday for a customer in East Vancouver.  This was a full day job. When we are installing fences like this even though it was only one cedar panel it still takes a full day because have the day is time to get the material and to set up and clean up. When we are installing full fences with a bunch of panels once we have the material and are set up we can finish in a few hours for each panel. Normally for custom fence install in labor we charge about $150 to $200 for each 8ft cedar panel plus material but for small jobs like this, we charge a day price of $600 plus material.

The customer wanted a metal gate to go with the cedar fence. We could not find a solid metal gate so the customer would have some privacy, so we just used a metal gate and filled the metal gate with cedar to give the customer some privacy.

The end results the customer was happy with their results and the happy customer makes our day :-)

Rotting Wood On Your Deck or Sidding

When living in Vancouver in our damp and rainy climate rotting wood can happen and when it does happen you want to get that taken care of right away. Quick Sidekick is providing services in Greater Vancouver area to fix rotting wood siding, wood fences, and wood decks.

The wood siding does not look that bad when you first look at it. The wood siding just looks like some chipped wood that can be sanded away and painted. But when we took a look at the siding the wood was actually rotting and needed to be replaced.

When we started to take the siding down we noticed there was a wasp nest inside the siding. This is common for rotting siding that insects will make your wood siding into their home. 

When we replaced the rotting wood siding we had to replace the whole side because we could not find the exact siding that matched because the old wood siding was very old.

Get Rid Of Ants By Getting The Out Side Of Your Home Cleaned

It is that time of year when the insects start to come out and invade your home. If you do not want to come home one day with ants invading your kitchen from any little crumb that is left call Quick Sidekick for your exterior cleaning services.

Cleaning the exterior of your home is a good way to get rid of ants and other insects. Ants and other insects can start to make a home for them self in the cracks of the siding of your home and can get into the walls of your home and from there into your home. Our experienced exterior cleaners can clean your home from top to bottom to get rid of all the dirt and bugs. If you order our full exterior cleaning services we first start by cleaning your roof. When cleaning your roof we will use a roof wash that will kill all bacteria including moss, algae, and insects. We will let this spray sit on your roof sometimes for a few days depending on how much moss and algae you have on your roof. We then will brush off all the moss, algae, and bacteria or use a very light spray of water to rinse everything off.

After the roof is cleaned then the tech will move to the gutters. The tech will clean out all the debris with his hands then after rinse your gutters out with water. If you let the tech know you have an insect problem beforehand the tech will spray your gutters with an insect spray that is a smell the insects don't like.

The tech will then move to your ground area. The tech will power wash all of the ground areas, and get rid of any weeds growing on the side of your house and get rid of all the dirt. After all of the dirt is washed away from your ground areas around your home we move to the home siding. When cleaning the siding of your home it kills all the bacteria that is growing on your home siding that some insects like to eat off of. When we are done cleaning your home siding we save cleaning the windows for last.

Once your house is fully cleaned all of the bacteria will be cleaned away and help prevent insects from wanting to make your home into their home until next spring and summer months. We recommend that you do a full cleaning of your home at least once a year and cleaning your gutters twice a year.  A full home cleaning can take a day to 2 days with 2 men cleaning depending on the size of your house and how dirty it is. For a full day exterior cleaning, we charge $1200 with 2 men plus the cost of chemicals.
